Car show to support Santi

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — A local family is getting support from the El Paso community as their 4-year-old son battles cancer.

Santi de la Cruz was born with Down syndrome and was diagnosed with cancer in August 2025.

Santi and his parents, Justin and Monique de la Cruz, visited ABC-7 on Wednesday to talk about their family’s journey and an upcoming car show fundraiser.

Justin de la Cruz said the past year has brought ups and downs for the family, but support from relatives, friends and the community has helped make the journey easier.

The family said expenses can add up quickly, including at-home medications, doctor visits and hospital stays.

A car show fundraiser benefiting Santi and his family will be held Sunday, Sept. 13, from noon to 3 p.m. at Fanatics near Montwood Drive and Lee Trevino Drive.

Organizers said the event will feature cars, raffles and other activities, with proceeds from the event going to the de la Cruz family.

Danny Martinez with Detroit Iron joined the family during Wednesday’s ABC-7 at Noon interview to encourage the community to attend and support Santi and his family.
