Fort Bliss hosts 9/11 fitness tribute

FORT BLISS, Texas — The Fort Bliss community is marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a fitness tribute honoring the lives lost.

The annual 9/11 Memorial Fitness Tribute features three physical challenges: rowing, using a stair-climbing machine and walking or running on the indoor track.

Delilah Cardenas, fitness coordinator for Fort Bliss Sports, Fitness and Aquatics, said the event is open to the Fort Bliss and El Paso communities, including families and retirees.

Participants do not have to be experienced athletes. Cardenas said modifications are available for those who need them.

People without access to Fort Bliss can obtain a visitor pass at the Chaffee Gate or Buffalo Soldier Gate visitor centers before heading to Soto Gym.

Cardenas said the event provides an opportunity for the community to honor those who lost their lives and the people who responded to the Sept. 11 attacks.

The tribute continues until 7:30 p.m. Friday. Cardenas recommends arriving no later than 7 p.m.
