Polo waits 91 days for home

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Polo has spent more than 90 days waiting for his forever family at the Humane Society of El Paso.

The 6-year-old shepherd mix has been in the shelter’s care for 91 days. Humane Society staff describe him as calm, gentle and easygoing. He also gets along well with other dogs.

Charlie Armendariz with the Humane Society of El Paso joined ABC-7 at Noon with Polo and said his age can be an advantage for families looking to adopt.

“He’s full grown, fully established,” Armendariz said. “A lot of what you see with him is what you’re going to get.”

Polo was a little nervous in the unfamiliar studio environment, but Armendariz said once he warms up, he stays close and looks to people for reassurance.

“He would be really good for a home for someone who’s just looking for a good cuddle bug companion,” Armendariz said.

Armendariz said families adopting a dog should expect an adjustment period that can last between one and three months. Giving a new dog patience, time and a safe space can help with the transition.

After 91 days at the shelter, Polo is still waiting for someone to take him home.

Those interested in meeting Polo can visit the Humane Society of El Paso to learn more about adopting him.
