Claudia Contreras Siller, candidate for El Paso City Council District 6

Name: Claudia Contreras Siller
Relevant Experience
I have a bachelors degree in organizational and corporate communication. Fluent in Spanish so I can engage with the people don’t don’t speak English. I have been attending city hall meetings for the past year and ten months. Advocating about important matters in the city, nonstop. I disagree with the way city council is being managed that’s why I am running for office. One of my priorities are the stray animals of the city I can say I have more than 10 years of experience dealing with stray animals, reporting animal cruelty, being an advocate for the ones without a voice and providing ideas on how to trap neuter return. I really like to educate the community on how to report cruelty and do the trap neuter return program. I have hosted several education events at public libraries alongside with EPPD and animal services to teach kids on how to respect animals and take care of them.
Personal
Born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Juarez. I came back to El Paso when I was 12 years old. I learned to speak English when I attended Montwood Middle School. I graduated from Montwood High School in 2006.
I graduated from UTEP with a bachelors in organizational and corporate communication and a minor in film.
I have worked in many places. I have 20 years of customer service experience, and also I have sales experience. I have worked for my current employer for 16 years. Right now I am a care provider and I really love to take care of elderly people. Sometimes I have to have two jobs at a time to be able to pay everything on my own. That’s why I can relate to the community that struggles to make a living. Also, I am the primary caretaker of my mom, who has Parkinson’s. I am a very strong animal welfare advocate. My passion and love for animals have taught me to always seek justice and fairness. I want to make sure residents and businesses are treated equally, and the city's future is not harmed by any of the votes I might make if elected.
What is your position on data centers?
I am 100% against data centers. I have spoken against data centers during public comment at City Hall several times. Also, I attended community meetings against data centers. I still think the city can file a lawsuit for deceptive trade practices since the original contract was made in a way that benefited META instead of El Paso.
What would you do differently to reduce property taxes?
I will vote against every single vanity project and request a revision of the city budget. I don’t think it’s fair that our police headquarters have been without water for more than three weeks. Putting up with horrible odors and using portable restrooms. Meanwhile, vanity projects are being done all over the city. We need to take care of our first responders first. We need to have common sense.
I will seek to remove all travel benefits from the city council so we can lower taxes. I feel taxpayers should not have to carry that fee. All city council members and managers receive enough money to pay for their trips.
What’s your position on the Deck Plaza project?
I am against every vanity project that will raise property taxes. I have spoken to several people and everyone is against the deck plaza. I plan to represent my constituents.
What are your plans to ensure transparency and make sure you are accessible to constituents?
I am a strong believer that taxpayers are the ones who should run the city. I will always be available to the news. I don’t have any donors to my campaign right now. So I don’t owe any favors to contractors or other organizations. My plan to always be accessible to constituents is to do what I am paid to do. Being a representative of the people requires gaining the people’s trust so they can feel free to speak to me. I love El Paso, and I plan to represent and fight for my city. I am passing flyers and I kiev to engage with the community.
What makes you the best candidate?
I am the best candidate because I am not a politician that is after money. I can see how some representatives try to stop Acevedo’s and Limon’s projects and I would never dare to do something like that. Playing with people's taxes because of resentment should be banned. I am the best candidate because I love everyone in El Paso, and I am brave enough to fight for my community. I have proved it many times at the city hall microphone and doing everything in my power to fight animal cruelty. If I love animals so much that I dedicate hours to help. People should consider me because I will do more for our people than the current city council has done. I am the best candidate because I know what it is to be hungry and not have food on the table. Also, I know how it feels to struggle to pay bills and just try to survive. I can represent the people because I can see and value all the effort El Pasoans do to feed their families and buy a house. El Paso deserves so much more than what is currently receiving. I will use discretionary funds to host events to help people come out of alcoholism … drunk driving in El Paso needs to stop. I am a strong supporter of the sober streets movement.
