ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Drier weekend ahead as triple-digit heat continues

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- We're no longer under an ABC-7 First Alert for the start of our Saturday as we track a shift into a drier weather pattern this weekend.

Isolated thunderstorms could remain a possibility over higher elevations, but most lowland communities are expected to stay dry through Sunday.

Temperatures tracking to remain above normal for early August, with highs in the upper 90s across the lowlands this weekend. By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures potentially climbing back toward 100 to 104 degrees along the Rio Grande Valley and Tularosa Basin as drier air moves into the region.

Looking ahead, storm chances tracking to remain limited mainly to the Gila and western New Mexico Monday and Tuesday. Better rain chances could return across the entire Borderland by the middle of next week as monsoonal moisture increases, but that could also bring a renewed risk for heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

Tracking a strong thunderstorm impacting portions of eastern and far east El Paso, Chaparral and surrounding areas through approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Affected areas include portions of eastern and central El Paso County, the Rio Grande Valley of eastern El Paso and western Hudspeth counties, the Hueco Mountains, and portions of the Tularosa Basin and White Sands.
