ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Mostly hot and dry across the Borderland – chances for isolated showers for higher elevations

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- We're tracking another hot day across the Borderland Saturday, with only isolated showers and thunderstorms possible over the higher elevations.

Storm chances remain limited across the lowlands, especially along the I-10 corridor. Any storms that do develop favor the mountains, particularly around Grant County, and could bring brief downpours and gusty winds up to 45 mph before diminishing around sunset.

By Sunday, conditions become even drier, with only spotty mountain showers possible. Thunderstorm chances are expected to decline almost completely across the Borderland early next week as high pressure builds closer to the region.

Lowland temperatures remain in the upper 90s to lower 100s through much of the week ahead, running 8 to 10 degrees above normal for late August and coming close to daily record temperatures.

Looking ahead, the extended pattern favors continued hot, dry weather through the remainder of August, with the primary monsoon moisture staying west of the Borderland.
