ABC-7 First Alert: Tropical remnants of Polo will bring heavy rain and potential flooding, 1-1.5 inches in certain spots expected

Our ABC-7 First Alert continues for preparation for this week's heavy rain and flooding potential associated with the tropical remnants of Polo is expected. This afternoon will be nice and clear with highs in the 80s. There will be slight chances for isolated evening showers and thunderstorms this evening mostly to the west of us.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for all of the Borderland including El Paso and Las Cruces from Monday afternoon to Wednesday morning. Likewise, the Weather Prediction Center has Slight (Level 2 of 4) to Moderate (Level 3 of 4) Risks for the Borderland tomorrow and a Moderate (3 of 4) Risk for Tuesday for Excessive Rainfall.

Rain chances will increase after tomorrow afternoon as the Borderland the first few waves of tropical remnants from Polo. These storms may bring heavy rain and potential flooding to the area. Rainfall amounts are expected to range from an inch to 1.5 inches in select areas, higher amounts are expected in higher elevations. With an already saturated area from last week's heavy rain, the flooding threat is likely across the Borderland!

Hurricane Polo is in the Eastern Pacific Ocean moving north at approximately 12 mph and is expected to turn to the northeast tonight where it is expected to strengthen again. Maximum sustained winds are at 125 mph (Category 3).
