ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Drying out this eek in the Borderland with highs in the mid 80s; major cold front expected next week

Happy Blessed Sunday to the Borderland! A few isolated showers and thunderstorms moved through Northwest El Paso and Las Cruces, one was severe warned for a little bit. No rain has accumulated at El Paso International. Today's high for El Paso was 90 degrees.

Monday and Tuesday, the Borderland will be drier, but a small chance of rain will be possible. The best chances will be to the east of the Borderland. Highs in the low to mid 80s, but a cooldown is come.

A late week major cooldown is expected... a powerful cold front will drop into the Borderland which will bring cooler temps and windy conditions.

The same High Pressure System that first built over the Four Corners of America has now shifted over the Deep South, which is helping funnel in some moisture from Hurricane Simon and the Gulf. This same system is also the same reason why Hurricane Simon is not able to move into land. Likewise, by the time Simon will start slowly moving into the region, a powerful cold front will be dropping into the Borderland which may either increase or suppress the rain chances.
