Are you in Congressional District 16 or 23?

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Some voters living in Texas' 16th Congressional District may see District 23 candidates on their ballots instead or vice versa. The El Paso County Elections Department said that's because of a redistricting map that was approved for the midterm elections.

"A voter may currently reside in District 23 or 16, but the Congressional Representative they are voting for, who will take office in January of 2027, is determined using the new 2026 maps, and therefore that is the race on your ballot," the department said.

Lisa Wise of the El Paso County Elections Department said many congressional district boundaries have been redrawn since the start of the current Congress. Updates to district boundaries may have changed which district you voted in during the 2026 primary and general elections.

Wise said the redrawn maps won't change the congressional district you're currently represented in until the changes go into effect after the start of the new Congress in 2027.

Texas.gov has a website where you can view the new redistricting map. District 16 took more area in the City of Socorro.

The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the new map for use in April.

Incumbent Congresswoman Veronica Escobar is the Democratic candidate running for District 16. Republican candidate Adam Bauman is challenging her for her seat.

In District 23, Republican Brandon Herrera faces Democrat Katy Padilla Stout.
