Woman’s body found in south-central El Paso canal near border

El Paso Fire Department Water Rescue units join with Border Patrol to recover a body from a south El Paso canal.

EL PASO, Texas – A woman's body was pulled from a canal along the Cesar Chavez Border Highway near Yarbrough on Saturday morning, the El Paso Fire Department said.

Water rescue units from the Fire Department assisted the U.S. Border Patrol in retrieving the body from the south-central El Paso waterway. Six divers took part in the recovery operation.

The initial call of a body in the water came in about 7 a.m., and it was finally pulled from the canal about 50 minutes later.

There was no immediate identification of the deceased, and authorities said the death was under investigation.
