2 dead in northeast El Paso shooting that police say was murder-suicide are identified

UPDATE Dec. 10: Police identified the murder victim as 24 -year old Monica Marie Carazo Vergel of El Paso and said she died at the hospital.

The offender was identified as 32 -year old Carmen Aureliz Gonzalez Avendez of Ft. Bliss, and police said he died at scene.

EL PASO, Texas -- Two people were shot dead Wednesday evening in northeast El Paso in what police said was a murder-suicide.

The shootings happened just after 5 p.m. at a home in the 4600 block of S M Mellnick.

One person was dead at the scene, and a second victim was taken to University Medical Center where she died a short time later.

Investigators said the murder-suicide shootings stemmed from "a family violence incident," but no further details were immediately available.
