From competitors to friends; Anthony cross country runners come to the aid of opponent

EL PASO, Texas - Two Anthony Middle School cross country runners put their competitiveness aside to come to the aid of a fellow runner.

Angelee Guerrero and Demi Arciniega are both 8th graders at Anthony Middle School.

During the first cross country meet of the season, they noticed a runner from Riverside Middle School who was exhausted and about to faint.

The Riverside runner was Valerie Fuentes, an 8th grader at Riverside middle.

Guerrero jumped into action to help Fuentes finish the race by allowing Fuentes to lean on her shoulders while they walked some of the course.

But as soon Guerrero started to get tired herself, that's when her friend and teammate Arciniega stepped in to help Fuentes cross the finish line.

A photo shared on social media showed Arciniega with Fuentes' arm around Arciniega's shoulder as the two approached the finish line.

Fuentes says she was thankful for the help from the two Anthony runners whom she never met before.

Fuentes says that shortly after the race, all three became friends on Instagram.
