ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Chilly Saturday before temperatures climb into the 80s

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Grab a jacket before heading out this Saturday morning! Cool October air is keeping temperatures well below normal across the Borderland, but a big warmup is on the way.

Lowland highs tracking to reach only in the lower 60s Saturday afternoon, about 10 to 15 degrees below normal for mid-October. Morning temperatures tracking to the upper 30s and lower 40s in many areas. East winds continue, with some gusts reaching 30 mph, especially across Southwest New Mexico.

Sunday tracking a noticeable warmup, with highs reaching the upper 60s to lower 70s. More clouds could develop during the afternoon, and a few light showers may move into Southwest New Mexico Sunday evening. Significant rainfall is not expected.

By Monday, temperatures continue to rise, with scattered showers and a few weak thunderstorms possible. Rain chances look spotty, and any rainfall is expected to be light. Tuesday has the potential of being much warmer, with lowland highs climbing into the lower to mid-80s.

Looking ahead, rain chances could return across the Borderland Wednesday through Saturday as several weather systems move into the Southwest. Although rainfall amounts are expected to be lower than during September's monsoon season, heavy rain could still cause localized flash flooding because the ground remains saturated from recent storms.
