Migrants from Venezuela cross Mexico legally thanks to “safe passage” document

JUÁREZ, Chihuahua -- Migrants from Venezuela can to cross the border thanks to a document that lets them move freely through Mexico for a week.

The document called "salvoconducto" (safe passage) in Spanish is issued by the National Institute of Migration or "Instituto Nacional de Migración" in Mexico.

Coming mainly from Mexico's southern border,

Venezuelan migrants are not subject to Title 42. They can ask for political asylum once they cross the border.

According to the border patrol, encounters in the entire El Paso Sector have risen to about 1,300 per day. Coming mainly from Venezuela, migrants are turning themselves to border patrol to start a new journey in the U.S.
