Rainy October hits the borderland, affects local farms

LA UNION, New Mexico -- Eight consecutive days of rain were enough to affect businesses, farms and other things in our area.

Last time we had so much consecutive days of rain like this was back in the 70's with ten days. Now, area farmers are dealing with all the extra moisture.

Harvest season is coming up later this month, and farmers have been slowed by the flooded fields.

ABC-7 spoke with Keith Deputy, an area farmer that has pima cotton and pecan fields.

After his fields and acres were flooded, he will have to wait until it is dry enough to be back to work on them. Right know, there's no work for him to do.

"We have not done any tractor work or any work outside of our barn for probably two and a half weeks," Deputy said.

It's been a while since something like this happened to him and his crops.

The rain is supposed to calm after tonight but ABC-7's Stormtracker team will continue updating you as any possibilities for more rain.
