The pilgrimage at Mt. Cristo Rey on this Good Friday
SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The pilgrimage at Mt. Cristo Rey is a tradition for many as a constant flow of people taking on the hike will be seen today on Good Friday. Many will carry crosses, their children, and some go barefoot. The hike is about 4.4 miles round trip.
Many are hiking this morning to give thanks and pray. The hike begins at 7 a.m., and the trail will stay open until 3 p.m. today.Â
According to organizers, there is no planned mass at the top of the mountain.
Volunteers from Mt. Cristo hey restoration committee are on site to provide security and guidance stationed along the trail. First aid is also available.
No pets are allowed on this hike, it is considered an easy to moderate hike, suitable for all ages.
If you can’t make it out for Good Friday, the trail will be open tomorrow for holy Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
