Sacred Heart Church receives $200K from El Paso County

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso county commissioners agreed to assist Sacred Heart church.

Sacred Heart Church will get about $200,000 dollars, similar to what the county does at the Rescue Mission and Opportunity Center for the Homeless.

County Judge Ricardo Samaniego told ABC-7 the money will help with food and shelter for migrants who've been processed, and documented by border patrol, and not those in the country illegally.

It will allow those people to stay at sacred heart for a little bit while arrangements are being made for them to go to their final destination.

Inside the church, there is a capacity of 120 with a priority for women and children, while hundreds sleep on the sidewalk near the church.

The money being given to the church is money from the FEMA funding the county received.
