Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial date set for August 28

AUSTIN, Texas (KVIA) -- The Texas Tribune reports that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment trial will begin no later than August 28 in Austin.

ABC-7 has learned that the Texas State Senate unanimously adopted a measure laying out the timeline for the trial Monday evening. A seven-member committee is now tasked with figuring out the rules and procedures for the trial. The committee's decisions will be presented June 20. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick will then set a trial date before August 28. On that date, experts say the Texas Senate will transform into a "court of impeachment."

Earlier this week, the Texas legislature voted overwhelmingly to impeach Paxton. Now they will need a two-thirds vote following the trial to remove him from office. Paxton was just reelected to his office in November of 2022.
