Be Mindful: Rio Vista expands in El Paso with new outpatient wing

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Rio Vista Behavioral Health has expanded access to mental health support on their campus.

The upgrades to the campus include an additional 40 beds -- as well as a new outpatient building.

While Rio Vista covers the whole breath of mental heath challenges, they provide tailored treatment for certain groups in the area.

The S.T.A.R (Support, Treatment, Action, Recovery) Program is specifically tailored for the military community -- whether they're vets, active-duty or reservists. The specialty program offers care for PTSD; combat trauma; sexual incidents; substance abuse and mental disorders.

Rio Vista's programming also offers specialized treatments for firefighters, police and other first responders. Officials with the program say that each treatment is personalized to the individual who is enrolled.

Their programming has options specifically for youth and adult care. Group therapy, coping skills and individualized treatments are all under the umbrella of Rio Vista's operations.

Speakers this morning included representatives from the city, sheriff's office and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar's office. All spoke about how mental health challenges had directly impacted their families, friends and the need for mental support.

A representative of the Congresswoman presented a flag, which had flown over the Capitol, to Rio Vista in celebration of their expansion.

Rio Vista also has a specialty unit offering care for older patients experiencing mental challenges, as well as developmental support.

The organization accepts patients with Medicare; Texas Medicaid and Tricare. Officials say they accept other types of insurance as well.
