Evacuees Take First Steps To Becoming El Pasoans
EL PASO, TX. – Less than two weeks after losing their homes, a number evacuees begin to take steps toward home ownership once again. With the number of evacuees housed in the El Paso Convention Center now down to 348, a number of the evacuees are in the process of finding their own place to live.
After getting a good lunch and a new hair style, many of the former New Orleans residents spent the day registering with the US Post Office to get a post office box here in El Paso. Not only will this will give the evacuees a sense of stability, it will allow different government agencies to contact the evacuees.
The next step for many evacuees was to speak with representatives from the El Paso Housing Authority. If all goes as planned, dozens could be moving out of the Convention Center this week the move-out has already begun and may be complete in two weeks.
As of late Thursday afternoon, 6 New Orleans families will move in to their new place here in the Sun City. Other families are making arrangement to move in with family members or even heading back to the habitable regions near the disaster area.
