Fewer Evacuees Arrive; Supplies Leave ABC-7 Studios
EL PASO, TX. – While crews in New Orleans report that 50% of the city still remains under water, Katrina evacuees in El Paso are finding more causes for hope every day.
City volunteerstell ABC-7 thatthey are still receiving people from the Gulf Coast, although not at a rapid rate. Fifteen new evacuees came to the Convention Center Sunday, and a few more arrived Monday.
A shelter spokesperson said they expect most familiess to steadily move out over the next few weeks. At the same time, after receiving such a large outpouring of support from the community, some much needed supplies are headed to the relief area.
Monday the items collected at KVIA’s eastside drop point were loaded up and shipped out. Canutillo trucker Tony Guilfoil left for the disaster zone with a load of the much needed supplies.
The amount of items left atKVIA drop-points alone was enough to fill one and half full-sized trucks.ABC-7 would like tothank everyone that donated items for relief, and thank both Tony Guilfoil and Randy “Moose” Gomez for their help.
