City’s Top High School Running Back Arrested
EL PASO, TX. – One of the city’s top running backs is arrested and booked into a Sun City jail on game day. Police tell ABC-7 Andress High Senior Jerald Turner was arrested Friday afternoon.
Officers allege they caught Mr. Turner with marijuana in the 10000 block of Mackinaw street. Police tell ABC-7 that address is within a 1000 feet of the school, and that possession of drugs that close to a school is a Class ‘A’ Misdemeanor.
EPPD went to check out narcotics use in progress around Andress High and found nothing. At 12:48 pm the officer went by school again, thought he saw a drug transaction and turned around. According to the police, Mr. Turner was found with under 2oz. marijuana.
According to EPISD Athletic Director Kenneth Owen, Mr. Turner will not play in Friday night’s game versus El Paso High. Mr. Owen also told ABC-7 that the school administration and coaches decided that was right move until they can look into the incident.
Mr. Turner currently ranks 4th in the city in rushing with 842 yards and he’s averaging 10 yards per game.
