Motorcyclist Dies In Collision With Big Rig

SOCORRO, TX — The Socorro Police Department has determined the driver of an 18-wheeler is at fault in the traffic death of motorcyclist.

The dead man is identified as 33-year old Oscar Lopez of Socorro. Police have not identified the driver, who faces charges in connection to the crash.

It happened Saturday around 10:30 p.m. on Horizon Boulevard south of I-10 at the intersection with Patti Jo in Socorro.

The crash caused the motorcycle to catch fire, Socorro police said.

The 18-wheeler made a wrong turn off Horizon Boulevard onto Patti Jo, officers said, and after realizing the mistake, the driver allegedly backed-up and ran over the motorcyclist.
