A long, black column of thick smoke greeted crews as they arrived at Newell Recycling. The smoke could be seen for miles, as crews battled the blaze located just south of Interstate 10 in the Cielo Vista Mall area.

According to the El Paso Fire Department, there have been 26 fires in the past 7 years at the same location. This time around, at least 17 units responded to the fire, closing off surrounding streets and pouring water onto the blaze for nearly an hour until the smoke finally began to subside.
