Hundreds Of Thousands Protest Proposed Immigration Reform

DALLAS, TX. – Close to 500,000 people crowded the streets of downtown Dallas Sunday in the largest demonstration to date against immigration reform. There were also protests in Santa Fe, Miami, Los Angeles and San Diego.

Many protesters wore shirts reading: “No HR4437.” this is the house bill which calls for building fences along the US-Mexico border, and tougher penalties for anyone who helps an undocumented immigrant.

The controversial issues are being debated on Capitol Hill, but late last week, the US Senate decided to take a 2-week break without making a decision on immigration reform. Some of the discussion includes legalizing the 11 million undocumented workers living in the US right now.

As Monday is the national day of action against immigration reform, there are thousands expected at San Jacinto Plaza. A counter-rally in favor of deporting undocumented immigrants is expected to be held in the area as well.
