Las Cruces Man Injured In Assault

LAS CRUCES, NM — ANew Mexicoman was taken to an El Paso hospital after he was attacked with a blunt object possibly a baseball bat, authorities inLasCrucessaid.

The assault happened in Las Cruces, at a home located in the 1300 block of Paxton.

Witnesses told police that a white 4-door car pulled up to the victim’s house, and several people got out of the car and started fighting with him in the front yard.

The man, whom witnesses identify as Jesus Lopez, 32, tried to run inside his home but the attackers followed him inside and continued to beat him, witnesses said.

Lopez was airlifted to Thomason Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Las Cruces police are continuing to investigate the case. A spokeswoman told ABC 7 it isn’t yet known how many attackers there were, or what a motive may have been.
