Rain Leaves Far East EP County Residents Picking Up Mud, Trash

EL PASO, TX- While many along the Borderland are having todeal withmud and debris being washed up on their land, residents of a far east El Paso neighborhood are having to deal with medical waste and syringes.

The recent rain storms have residentscleaning up the mess as a river of water washed through their neighborhood, and along with the water came lots of trash.

The Red Cross has stepped in to help residents by handing out bottled water.

According to residents, due to the runoff, their water wells have been contaminated.

Jackie Blatwell is one of the residents who has had their property flooded and Blatwell tells ABC-7 she knows exactly where the debris came from, the Clint Landfill owned by the city of El Paso.

Richard Adams oversees the landfill and can see that some trash has been swept away.

Blatwell has said that she has already called her congressman for help, saying that because she lives in east El Paso County and not within the Clint town limits, they often feel abandoned and left to pick up the mess on their own.

Accordingly, Adams tells ABC-7 that state regulators will be investigating the incident.

He adds that if they find the city is to blame for this mess, the city will be required to pick it up.
