Congressman Silvestre Reyes Surveys Damage

EL PASO, TX- Multiple homes in Canutillo remained under several feet of water Wednesday afternoon as Congressman Silvestre Reyes made a trip to the areato view the damage for himself.

Residents came out of their home to speak withReyes aboutwhat happened when the water came rushing through their homes along Mowad Street, an area that washit particularly hard.

Some homes were flooded by as much as three feet of water. Manyhomeownerssaid they weren’t sure howthey wouldbe able to remove it all.

Reyes promised he would do what he could to assist in the cleanup process. He said he wouldrequest a pumper truck from Fort Bliss to extract the standing waterso families could try to salvage whatwas left of their homes.

“The dike that was intended to switch the water to go down Doniphan and down toward the river gave way,” he said. “We’re going to have to have the city take a look at that.”
