Coordinated Efforts Continue
EL PASO, TEXAS – At this time the Office of Emergency Management continues to assess the on going consequences of the excessive rainfall that El Paso has had.
Approximately 150 people have been evacuated in two neighborhoods in the City of Socorro. The Socorro Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the National Guard have been coordinating these evacuations efforts. These individuals have been taken to the Wellness Center in Ysleta.
The Socorro Independent School District has assisted in the transport of these individuals. The El Paso Police Department, the El Paso Fire Department, El Paso ISD Police Department, Texas Parks and Wild Life Water Rescue and the National Guard have been coordinating the evacuation of approximately 300 individuals in Central El Paso in the Pershing and Gateway North area.
This incident has involved 140 firefighters, 60 El Paso Police Officers, 10 El Paso Independent School District Police Officers, 40 members of National Guard, 10 Officers from the Texas Parks and Wildlife. The El Paso Independent School District provided 5 school buses.
Sun Metro has provided 4 40-foot buses and 1 paratransit to this incident.
A large part of the individuals being evacuated from this area are going with friends and relatives and a smaller portion will be taking shelter at the convention center.
