Families Return To Flooded Homes

EL PASO, TX. — Hundreds of people evacuated from South-Central El Pasocame homeSaturday to findwater and mud had ruined most of their belongings.

One neighborhood hit hard in Friday’s showers sits right infront of a retention pond near the Spaghetti Bowl.

The area was engulfed in floodwaters after another storm passed over. Some residents, like the Medina family, noticed the water level hadn’t reduced significantly inside their homes.

“It hasn’t gone down, it’s going to come back up and there’s nothing we can do,” Pat Medina said, as she surveyed the damage to her mother’s home.”The water is just stuck there. It’s high and it’s going to happen again.”

Pat and Eddie Medina said they fear that if it rains again the water will plow through the home, yet again.

“It went throughthe rock wall. We lost everything,”Mr. Medina said.

The familyspent the dayvacuuming and sweeping mud and water out of the house, trying to salvage anything they can.

“All the memories, all the stuff inside the house is damaged,”Mr. Medina said.

“I feel sad because my mom, she wants to go home, but I can’t let her go home,”Mrs. Medina said.

The family said there was aboutthree to four feet of water in the home. The only thing that was worth saving was a sofa, the family said.
