Juarez Dams Overflowing, Potential For Bursting

El PASO, TX- The potential breach of a dam in Cd. Juarezprompts the evacuation of Chihuahuita, and areasinSegundo Barrio.

Areas to be evacuated includePaisano from Executive to Kansas, Father Rahm, St. Vrain and the Border Highway including the neighborhoods of Chihuahuita and parts of the Segundo Barrio

Officials estimate that up to 2,000 residents are being evacuated, and are urged to go to the Civic Center for shelter. They suggest residents bring a change of clothes, blankets or sleeping bags, as well as any medications and personal hygiene products.

City officials consider this action necessary becausethe Army Corps of Engineers believes the dam, La Frontera Baja,is unstable and its flow path is directly over the evacuation area.

ABC-7’s Martin Bartlett says14 Texas National Guard Humveesare helping with evacuations as well asmany uniformed police officers.
