Vinton Residents Urged To Evacuate To West Valley Fire Department

VINTON, TX. — Constant rain on Tuesdayyielded severe damage tothe frontage road between Vinton and Westway in West El Paso County.The road is completely impassable and motorists are having to seek an alternate route, such as I-10, to get between the two communities.

Town officials in Vinton have reported several arroyos have burst and have urged residents to seek higher ground immediately.

An extremely dangerous situationarose in Vinton at Ledbetter and Kiley, as water had washed away gas lines. As of noon, crews were not able to get to the area to shut them down.

Residentsnear the affected areawere urged to seek shelter at the West Valley Fire Station. An ABC-7 news crew was on the scene and reported seeing a fire truck halfway submerged in the mud. The exits near Chaparral and Vinton were nearly impassable as of 2 p.m., ABC-7 reporter Jayme Rubenstein said.

Rubenstein indicated residents should not seek shelter at Village Hall, as was once recommended.
