Brief, Heavy Rainstorms Pound Borderland; School Bus Stuck In Mud

EL PASO COUNTY, TX. – Heavy rains moved into the Borderland area againTuesday afternoon, causing roadway flooding and general headaches for residents.

Doa Ana County roads crews have been dispatched with heavy equipment to clear debris from roads in Mesquite and Chaparral, where both communities were drenched with heavy rains in the last couple of hours.

In the community of Del Cerro, a school bus got stuck in mud, and approximately 30 elementary students were taken to the Del Cerro Community Center to wait for their parents.

The Gadsden Independent School District is notifying the affected families.

Areas of I-10 that were hit hard by last weeks storms, such as Piedras and Reynolds, were again areas of major concern.

Noelle Crouthers, a spokeswoman for the City tells ABC-7 the Office of Emergency Management has three storm shelters on stand by. They will be activated as needed.

According to Crouthers, that means they are just waiting for officials in hard hit areas like Vinton to tell them they need them.
