Westway Reeling From Devastating Storms

WESTWAY, TX. — Residents in this small community in West El Paso County say they have a lot to do before they can fully recover from several days of rainstorms.

ABC 7 Reporter Veronique Masterson spoke with residents who live on Camellia Street on Sunday. Many said they have lost everything, but they expressed their gratitude toward the Red Cross, which has been of considerable help.

“Westway was one of the hardest hit areas,” said Al Johnson, with the El Paso Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Trash bags are filled with clothes ready to be thrown out. The drive way and front yard is covered in mud.

Rain and debris have ruined walls and carpets andmany families don’t have hot water.

“They’re frustrated, they’re confused,” Johnson said. “They’re devastated, and what’s going through my mind is how quickly we can get them back on they’re feet,” he said.

“You couldn’t really get in until about two days ago,” one resident told ABC 7.
