Street Flooding Frustrates Upper Valley Residents

EL PASO, TX. — For many Upper Valley residents, often the hardest part of their day of late is just getting in and out of their homes.

“It makes getting to work kind of difficult when you have to walk through this,” said Bruce Weathers, who trudged through standing water on Mulberry Ave.

“I borrow some rubber boots. That is how I go in and out of the house. I don’t want to step in the nasty water,” he said.

The road has flooded several times since heavy rain showers started on Aug. 1. With a steady downpourearly Saturday,the street againwas transformed intoa body of water.

Residents have told ABC 7 they think the city should have a long-term solution. “This seems to be a recurring thing and it doesn’t seem to be getting fixed,” said Alma Rinard, who lives on Mulberry.

“For the most part, what’s being done is that a truck collects the water and dumps it somewhere. Honestly, that sounds like a slightly mechanized version of guys with buckets carrying a bucket at a time,” she said.

Residents ABC 7 spoke with said a drain system should be put in place before the next monsoon season.
