NM Governor Signs Request For Federal Aid

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) – Governor Richardson has signed a request for a presidential disaster declaration for three eastern New Mexico counties hit by a string of tornadoes.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency could not act until the governor signed the request. At least 16 tornadoes swept through areas in Curry, Quay and Roosevelt counties late Friday.

The twisters damaged homes, roads and businesses, and snapped power lines. One woman died of injuries suffered during the severe weather.
