Wife, Son Fight Extradition To N.C. In Murder Case

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) – A woman and her son are fighting extradition from New Mexico to North Carolina, where they face murder charges in the death of her husband.

Authorities say 70-year-old Melba Slaydon and 46-year-old Ronald Gibbs, both of Asheboro, North Carolina, refused to sign extradition papers (this week). They’re being held today in the Otero County Detention Center on murder charges contained in warrants issued out of Randolph County, North Carolina.

District Attorney Scot Key says a warrant must be signed by the governors of both states before Slaydon and Gibbs can be extradited. Key says the process will take about 30 days. The body of 87-year-old Robert Slaydon was found buried in a box July 26th on the couple’s property.
