Girl Punctures Skull After Riding Bike Into Rod On Trailer

ARGYLE,TX. (AP) – A 6-year-old North Texas girl is hospitalized after she punctured her skull on a metal rod when she rode her bicycle into the back of a parked trailer.

Fire officials in the Denton County town of Argyle aren’t releasing the girl’s identity after last night’s accident. Fire Chief Mac Hohenberger says the girl was airlifted to Children’s Medical Center at Dallas in critical condition. Her condition’s not available today.

The incident happened around nightfall yesterday in the Lantana community, about 35 miles northeast of Fort Worth. Hohenberger says the girl was riding her bicycle down a neighborhood street with friends when she ran into a rebar protruding from the back of the trailer. Rebars are steel rods commonly used to reinforce concrete. Argyle police say initial reports were that the girl fell onto 4 inches of rebar.
