Officers Find Marijuana Hidden In Load Of Comforters

GALLUP, N.M. (AP) – State Motor Transportation Division officers have uncovered more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana hidden under a truckload of comforters.

The Department of Public Safety says the truck’s owner and operator, 48-year-old Rickie Reichard of Spiro, Oklahoma, was arrested on drug-smuggling charges. Officials say an officer pulled the truck over yesterday on Interstate 40 east of Gallup after seeing it swerving.

They say a check to verify the load found $3.5 million worth of marijuana under the bedding. The case has been turned over to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
