Valencia County Sheriff Identifies Legs Found In Ditches

BELEN, N.M. (AP) – The legs found in irrigation ditches south of Albuquerque last month have been identified.

They belonged to 93-year-old Billie Rogers, a member of the Navajo Nation who lived in Albuquerque. That word today from Valencia County sheriff’s Lieutenant James Purdy. Investigators tracked down Rogers’ name from a serial number on artificial knee joints on the legs.

James says investigators spent a week hand-searching records at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. The rest of the man’s body has not been found. James says officials don’t know how he died, but his identity gives them a place to start. His family has been notified.
