NM Supreme Court Re-Instates Conviction Of Men Accused In Infant’s Death

LAS CRUCES, NM – The New Mexico Supreme Court re-instated the convictions of two men accused in the death of a Las Cruces infant.

According to authorities, five-month-old Brianna was abused to death in 2002. Stephanie Lopez, the mother of the infant is currently serving 27 years for her daughter death.

Wednesday, Brianna’s father, Andrew Walter, and her uncle, Steven Lopez were sentenced in the case.

Walters was sentenced to 57 years in prison while Lopez was sentenced to 63 years in prison.

During the first trial, an appeals court ruled the men’s rights were violated because they were tried together.
