Probation Dept. Helps Fund Memorial For Crime Victims

EL PASO, TX – A project to remember victims of crimes in El Pasoreceived big boost Wednesday.

The El Paso Adult Probation Department donated more than $20,000 to help build the memorial. The money was gathered from probationers – who each paid $20 dollars to help build the memorial in lieu of 10 hours of community service.

The Memorial Reading Garden will be built at Yucca Parknear the intersection ofYarbrough and Carolina.

The memorial will remember the 945 people who died a violent death during the commission ofa crime during the last ten years, officials said.

“It helps the offender…it helps us in the rehabilitation process,” said Mike Chavez, with the Adult Probation Department.
