Hatch NM Man Stabbed With Broken Beer Bottle

HATCH, N.M. – Luis Rodriguez, a 22-year-old Salem, New Mexico resident surrendered himself to the Hatch Police Department, late Wednesday evening.

Rodriguez was wanted on an Aggravated Battery charge arising from an August 25th altercation between Rodriguez and 21-year-old Jose de Jesus Reyes.

Reyes reported to Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputies on Saturday, August 25th that he had been allegedly stabbed byRodriguez after confrontinghim about throwing beer bottles at Reyes’ car.

Reyes said a long-standingdispute with Rodriguez, incited the suspect to allegedly throw bottles at Reyes’ car early Saturday evening. When Reyes confronted Rodriguez about it, that’s when sheriff’s deputies say Rodriguez stabbed him with a broken beer bottle, once in the face and twice in the right arm.

Reyes received twenty-nine stitches on Saturday evening at Memorial Medical Center and Rodriguez was charged with Aggravated Assault, a fourth degree felony.
