Health District Confirms Season’s First West Nile Death
EL PASO, TX -El Paso area health officials say an elderly South El Paso man has died from West Nile Virus.
It’s the first human death this year in El Paso County related to West Nile Virus, according to the City-County Health District.
The victim was 82-years-old and lived in the 79905 ZIP code. He was admitted to the hospital to be treated on August 14 and died on August 25th.
In addition, the El Paso City-County Health & Environmental District has confirmed the diagnosis of threemore human West Nile cases.
On August 11, a 49-year-old Hispanic woman who lives in the 79915 zip code area was taken to a hospital to receive treatment after contracting the virus. She was released on August 22nd.
Also on August 11, a 75-year-old White female who lives in the 79936 zip code area was admitted to a hospital after contracting the disease. She is still hospitalized.
On August 19, an 80-year-old Hispanic male who lives in the 79905 zip code area was admitted to a hospital after contracting the disease. He is still in the hospital.
There are six additional cases that are categorized as probable and suspected, authorities say.
City officials say Vector Control continues to collect mosquitos for testing and to fog for mosquitos in all areas where humans and mosquitos have tested positive.
