Convicted Killer Implicates Two Teenagers
EL PASO, TX – Convicted murderer Richard Flores claimed two other people helped him kill the mother of his three daughters.
Flores told police that his cousin and his finder both helped him tie up and dispose of 20-year-old Maria Corral’s body. However, no charges have been filed against the alleged co-conspirators.
Last week, Flores was sentenced to serve 99 years in prison for the murder of Corral. Taped and written statements reveal Flores claimed his cousin Guillermo “Gordo” Palma and his friend, Julio “El Diablo” de Leon, helped him tape and wrap Corral’s body.
Palma was 13 and de Leon 15 when the murder happened in April, 2005. Corral’s family tells ABC-7 they want both teenagers to be charged in the murder.
Despite the district attorney’s office admitting 150 exhibits against Flores into evidence, the County Attorney’s Office, which handled the case against the two because they were juveniles at the time, revealed it has no evidence against Palma and de Leon.
Yahara Lisa Gutierrez, the Attorney who prosecuted Flores, tells ABC-7 his statements are no good. “Any kind of statement, co-conspirator statement by Flores, is inadmissible in court against they are juveniles…we come back to nothing,” said Gutierrez.
However, Gutierrez did state that if more evidence were to come to light in the future, her office would consider trying the two teenagers since their is no statute of limitations for murder charges – meaning the two suspects can be tried at any time.
