20-month-old run over, killed in Central El Paso

Update (December 27, 2023): El Paso Police identify the victim as an 20-month-old child.

Special Traffic Investigators say 20-year-old Bryan Eduardo Acosta Rodriguez had left his house then returned because he had forgotten an item.

Investigators say his spouse brought him the item and went back inside as the child left the house. Rodriguez drove away and "inadvertently" ran over the child, police say.

He called 911 right away and started to provide first aid. Emergency crews rushed the child to the hospital where it was pronounced dead.

Police say this is the 80th traffic fatality compared to 72 this time last year.
