Make-Up Of Children’s Hospital Board Proposed
EL PASO, TX. – In afew months, El Paso property owners will begin paying to build a new children’s hospital.
A homeowner with an average priced house will see an increase in their yearly tax bill of about 30 dollars.ABC-7has new information on who will spend that money.”We had to start somewhere andI felt that it was going to be important to get the feedback from the stake- holders which are the doctors,” said Dr. Gutierrez.
He said the children’s hospital board will begin with three founding members. One representing local pediatric specialists, another representing pediatric physicians and one from the El Paso Internationalt Children’s Hospital Foundation forming the initial three-member founding board.
Those three will be in charge of accepting nominations of the members remaining. Including:
Two members from Thomason Two from Commissioner’s Court One from Texas Tech One from William Beaumont and Two members at-large
This would make it an eleven-member board. Dr. Gutierrez added this is a fair representation of the various entities without giving one too much power.
“You may get into a situation like the Thomason board where you get appointees who can disrupt the board. It won’t work because they’ll only be one vote or two votes and it’s an 11-member board. Definitely no ‘cronyism,’ no ‘buddy’ system,” Dr. Gutierrez explained.
Currently, there is no time table onnamingall theboard members. He said he expects the founding members to take their time. And even though Dr. Gutierrez has been so involved in the initial organization of the hospital’s board, he said he will not serveas part of it.
