Concerns About Texas Tech Medical School Leadership Changes

EL PASO – The Texas Tech Medical School in El Paso is in the process of getting full accreditation. But could recent personnel shifts affect the process?

Back in September, Dr. Robert Suskind was replaced by Dr. Manny de la Rosa as dean of the school. WhenABC-7 spoke to Suskind, hesaid the termination came without notice and that Baldwin did not even step into his office to tell him they were letting him go.

Suskind said he was doing everything he was expected to do. Now, concerns have surfaced that De la Rosa does not have the conncections like Suskinddoes to recruit researchers to the medical school.

During this past weekend’s Ray Pearson Forum,a community-based information exchange,Baldwin was asked if the public has the right to know why a public institution makes such swift changes.

“They don’t influence our service to the community, so no, I don’t think that is a necessary action to take,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin has not said why Suskind was fired, but did say De la Rosa should not be underestimated. Baldwin said he expectsDe La Rosato bring in researchers who specialize in medical issues unique to the borderland.
