Man Indicted In Wife’s Murder Extradited To US

EL PASO — A manindicted in the1999 murder of his wifeis back in the U.S. to face murder charges.

Lorenzo Lechuga was caught one year ago in Torreon, Mexico, and was being held in Mexico City. Early Thursday, he was flown into Houston andwas later put ona flight into El Paso.

Lechuga is accused of killing his common law wife, 18-year-old Veronica Guillen — and then fleeing to Mexico.

“We just want to know why he did it,” said Guillen’s sister Anna.

According toindictment documents, Lechuga strangled his wife to death. She was in the eight month of her pregnancy at the time.

Guillen’ssister saysLechuga’s extraditionwill finally bring closure to her sister’s murder. She says it was even more tragic because her sister really wanted to be a mother.

“She was excited and was just waiting for that day. She actually wanted to have her baby on Valentine’s day,” she said. Guillen and her daughter are buried side by side.
