Two Men Escape Injury After Shots Fired

MESQUITE, NM — A man and his brother were the target of an attempteddrive-by shooting early Sunday morning, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s detectives said.

The shots rang out around 2 a.m. on Palmilla Street in Mesquite, investigators said.

Federico Cabasos, 23,and his 15-year-old brother told investigators they were in their vehicle when another car filled with people started chasing them.

The brothers stopped in a cul-de-sac, where Cabasos says the passenger in the other car fired three to four rounds.

The brothers said they jumped out of the car and ran behind some bushes, when the gunmen shottwo more times then sped away.

“We didn’t see anything but we heard tires screeching like that of a truck that has a muffler,”a witnesssaid. “Thentwo shots. Then the truck sped off really fast.”

No one was injured, sheriff’s investigators said.
